Resizing the IG Pro display
« on: January 24, 2010, 05:03:22 PM »
I recently re-installed IG Pro 5 onto my Windows 7 computer from the CD (2008). I've also been through the FTP site and found a bunch of programs that were updated and installed those.

My Computer has a 22" wide-screen display running at 1920x1080 resolution. When I run IG Pro it runs full screen and reducing the size cuts off major portions of the programs. In it's Full-Screen mode, filling in forms like GA027 are really difficult as the text fields are enormously wide and spread across the screen - so you have to scan around to find the buttons to push and fields to fill.

I'd also like to be able to run at least a couple of programs side-by-side as I research plant information or search through my Photoshop Elements photo management program.

Anything I can do?

You could open the preferences program and uncheck the checkbox with the caption:
Allow screen resizing.

The next version of IG Pro will have a new feature introduced to the forthcoming release of a new version of Bank Genie.
It in turn was a further development and refinement to a new feature introduced in GA040 in IG Pro :)
Download the Chiltern Catalog from this page:
http://www.garden-software.co.uk/SupplierCatalogs/suppliercatalogs.html

Run IG Pro and start Catalogs - GA040
When you open and explore the catalog you will find the screens resizable.
In addition, when resized and the screen is closed, the size is restored next time you open it to the size you set last viewing.
So the answer to question 1 is - the next version of IG pro will have resizable screens, which also can be dragged around to a preferred position, so windows can look logically cascaded.

You can open multi sessions of IG Pro, John, and run different programs in each AND work on the same database.
When I do my research I find that very useful.
A word of warning. You may have to refresh screens to see changes made in another session.
Apart from that, things will be fine.

Does that help?

Thanks for the prompt reply, George. I had a look at Preferences and saw that the 'Allow auto screen resizing' was checked - I must admit that I assumed that it meant one could dynamically change the size of the IG Pro window - so had probably checked it. I've got it unchecked now and the overall screen size only takes about a quarter of my screen, so that's great.

I'll download that catalog program and take a look. Also thanks for the info about what's coming, that will be really nice.

Thanks for the advice on running multiple instances, I do seem to remember saying that some time ago, but had forgotten.

Its quite small when Resize is unchecked in preferences, John.
When you cascade down and drag a screen to reposition, the position is not "remembered".
Next IG Pro will deal with that.
Anyone who would like to see an example can download the new Bank Genie. It has been delayed, but I hope to release in Feb 2010.

I'd like to hear your comments on the Catalogs program.
Ive negotiated a deal with Chiltern. Anyone ordering on Mail Order (hard copy order with payment enclosed delivered by snail mail) can order from that downloadable 2009 catalog, provided it is available on the 2010 catalog.
The IG pro software allows you to click a button and arrive at the exact buy page for any plant in the 2009 catalog, so easy to check availability.
They deliver to US. Toby used the system last year.
Any orders will be support for my campaign to get Chilterns warmed to the downloadable Catalog project.
It was a year of development - and more - over a few years to get that refined.
If successful, I can do the same service for other Seed suppliers and Nurseries - a Catalog on CD, or downloadable.
Its much quicker to play with locally, than waiting for a server on-line, and we can attach not just one, but unlimited numbers of photos per plant (and garden photos) - and our review notes - to help the customer decide.

I just "discovered" another feature which will be much better for you John

In Preferences GA198
1) Check the Checkbox Allow Screen Resizing
2) Check the Checkbox  Use MY screen size
3) Drag the GA198 screen to your preferred size
(Try and keep the original aspect ratio width-v-height so screens don't get distorted
4) Save changes

When you run the programs now, they will be resized to the setting you selected.

Note: If making the screen smaller, do it in increments if necessary. If you make the screen too small, you may "lose" the Save Changes button. Make sure you can see enough of the button to click on.

Let me know how that works for you folk (all can have a try)

In GA198S01 ver 18,  I can only see a checkbox marked "Allow Auto Screen Resizing" Which is already ticked

Cant see another tick box marked  "Use my Screen"

Have I missed something  :(

That version was never taken out of test folder, but is now tested and verified.

The grey check box appears when the user doesnt have the latest Preferences file.

You'll need these:

Latest Preferences file structure
http://www.ideasgenie.com/test/ig-preferences-dl.exe

and latest menu:
http://www.ideasgenie.com/test/ifg_igp-dl.exe
On the Program selection screen click Menu Version
If all installed correctly will show 5.04.2009-03-27

George:

I don't know if you want this here or not, but;
I've just checked my downloads, and came up with this:
On GA049 I'm running Version 8, you have it indicated as Version 4 on the list
Also, on GA048 I'm running Version 29, I assume that is probably correct, considering the 'disqualifier'
with GA048 immediately following titled 'Labels for use in GA048' and we haven't had any changes recently.

on the resizing of any screen am i correct that if you put your mouse pointer to bottom right hand corner that is how you resize it, by using mouse left click hold and move mouse, but if you make it to small you loose buttons etc or should the butons shrink as you resize, confused or just having a moment cant decide  ::)

Yes, you are correct, Phil.
Put your mouse pointer to bottom right hand corner.
An oblique 2 headed arrow will appear.
Drag to resize.

Unfortunately the controls dont resize, so the Save Changes button "stas put" when you resize.
Thats why I explained that you may have to do it in small incremental amounts (saving each time) if reducing the screen size.

Ive now refreshed that web page.
http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igprox/
Click refresh when you re-visit the page

Ive recompiled and uploaded the following (just to be on the safe side):
GA005 Version 33
GA006 Version 19
GA007 Version 26
GA027 Version 29
GA032 Version 42
GA047 Version 13
GA048 Version 29
GA049 Version 8

Most of you will have these updates. They "evolved" as we worked together on the Labels, Photos, WPG programs etc
Ive made an amendment to the Tasks program while|I worked on it during our Vegetable project.
Any questions, let me know.

I developed that screen resizing feature to cope with wide screen monitors.

These can be turned "vertically" - portrait style i.e. so that the screen is "width less that height" - like looking at a page.
When I tested in that orientation, the screens were unacceptable.
After that modification, I could resize to suitable proportions  ;D

Hi George,
Well this dialog has certainly progressed since I looked last (thanks for the email!). I've downloaded the various programs you suggested in the email.

I've checked the "Allow Screen Resizing" and "Use MY screen size" - however, it took me a while to figure out what was going on. I would resize the Preferences screen by dragging on the lower right corner, but didn't see any changes to the layout of the program. I finally realized I had to save and close, then re-open the program to see the new layout.

There is a glitch, I think. Lets say you're at the stage where you have a lovely wide screen monitor and have expanded everything to fit the entire screen, trying to reduce the Preferences program isn't possible as you lose the ability to see the Save button. I think you may have mentioned this in the thread. What it means is that you really have to uncheck those boxes and restart the program, thus putting it back to its small compact size.

A final thing - IG Pro always starts with the container window Full Screen and I always click the Windows button to bring it back to a normal 'window'. It would be nice if the program remembered if it was running with its container in normal windows mode or full-screen windows mode.

Keep up the good work, George, everyting is evolving nicely
