Title: Gnarly Tree in Brockenhurst
Post by: NightHawk on June 23, 2013, 05:25:37 PM
Walking around Brockenhurst, New Forest this afternoon and came across this old gnarly tree.

It's definitely seen better days  :D

I must confess having a certain passion for 'unusual' trees.

Nature does some very strange things.

Maybe a new Board is required to showcase such instances encountered  :-\  ;)

Yes, do it Laurie!
I have one to add (need to do a bit of searching to find it!).
I also know of a certain tree hugger in our ranks :)

You seem to have a lot of these solitary dead trunks near you, Laurie. They make good subjects for a photograph. Interesting that nobody fells them after they have died.

I'm quite sure there's a lot more trees like this we have yet to discover Eric  ;)

Unless the dead or damaged trees are next to a forest path, where someone could be injured from them toppling over, then they are just left to their own devices.

The trees we've come across so far don't present any danger as they're far enough away from any paths.

A great photo opportunity as you so rightly say though.
