Garden Open Day Cakes
« on: July 10, 2010, 10:32:52 PM »
Here is a picture of the cakes we made (12 of them) for our open day on July 11th 2010. Some of the are yet to be filled, we always leave the filling till the morning of our opening.

This year we have produced a fully laminated recipe book, which contains the recipes for ten of the most popular cakes.
I will post here the recipe for the cake which is the most popular of the open day.

You were right George, the cakes didnt last, all gone, every slice.
We had 262 visitors on a dry and quite sunny day.
It turned out I was out in the garden at 6.15 am before we headed off with the signs.

The Plum and Almond cake was the first cake to be demolished, I will put the recipe up here in the next couple of days.

Congratulations Lyn and Malcolm - a job well done.

You were very lucky with the weather too.  Just as well you didn't have our weather - very strong and blustery 25 mph winds.

Laurie.

Not looking for the 308 I think that came to our first opening of the year last year, but over 200 would be nice.
262 on the day was a fantastic turnout. I hope they didn't all arrive at the same time :D
Is there a time limit for visitors?

Looking forward to the recipe. I'll leave it in prominent places around the house ;)

Have posted the recipe in another thread.

Thankfully only a light breeze here Laurie

No time limit for visitors George, we are supposed to have 45 minutes of interest for our visitors, many are here for longer.  ;D

Seriously though, if we kept having 300+ visitors in one day we may have to limit entry, by using the one in one out system. But I would think that would be unpopular. I would doubt we would ever break that record of last year for an open day, after being on TV and mentioned in The Telegraph.
We did have a journalist from Garden News come here 3 weeks ago, and they are supposed to be doing a feature. However we were told it would be about 8 weeks after the visit. Bit of a waste of time if it is after this years openings.

Thats a good number of visitors, some nice looking cakes.
You have been ok with the weather, here we have just had rain and thunderstorms, we do though really need the rain. Most gardens in the village are really suffering.
I have had to water some of mine - just had the waterbill!!!!
Anyway well done for the open day I'm sure every one enjoyed, if I'mever down your way I will look you up.
Paul.
