« on: April 01, 2010, 11:37:12 PM »
Please try out our new slideshow here http://www.lynandmalc.co.uk/genus/index.html
Please give any comments like how fast does it load, does it fit on the page on screen etc. How easy do you find the navigation.
Need to update a few iffy pictures later.

Malcolm

Please note I have changed the url of our slideshow, the url is correct as above.

i like it loaded quick for me on bb, screen size ok in centre, navigation i found easy, one suggestion i would make though is to copyright your pics if you can, i see many same pics of the same plant on various sites and your pics are wonderfull, if you dont have a copyright program i use umarklite does think its 50 pics in one go and you can select where you want your name to go, coloure size etc

Phil

Thanks for trying the slideshow, glad it worked for you ok. It took me several evenings to compile it, will have more to add to it, and replace some of the smaller pictures in there, which were taken several years ago.

Regarding copyrighting the pictures, as each slide is only about 50kb, if they are copied they will never make a good hardcopy for printing to any decent size.
Putting a watermark on each picture, if the mark is somewhere around the edge it can always be cropped out, and if towards the centre it will spoil the picture for all to see. I do appreciate what you say Phil.

Malcolm, I dont know how you find the time for all that :) Amazing.

Loads up quickly and reponse is good Malcolm.

It fits my screen fine. Navigation is good once you read the help and play with it for a while.

Re the plant names under the images - are they file names?

Thanks George and Laurie for the thumbs up on the slideshow. I haven't linked to it yet within our website, will do so over the weekend.

George. The names are from the filenames in the first instance, but can be edited. As you may remember, I have always used filenames with lower case and no spaces. So had to alter all 429 to get the spaces and a first capital. I really should go through them all again to sort the other capitals out. ::)
Any way it seems to work fine, so will go ahead with that.

Many thanks

Malcolm

Oh for Broadband!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Works on Dialup, but obviously a little slow.
Wish I had the energy.
You can embed a copyright claim, invisibly. The Gov't are in the process of passing a Bill which will basically transfer ownership of all non copyrighted images on the Web to them.

So as not to go off topic too much regarding photo copyright I have started a new topic so we can discuss this.

Visit http://www.flowergenie.co.uk/ideas/forum/index.php/topic,1405.0.html to discuss further.

Lyn and Malcolm, You have done an amazing amount of work to grow such a huge number and variety of  lovely flowers, to photograph them so beautifully and then to set up the slide shows. The slide shows loaded up quickly on our applemac and played  a clear picture about every 5 seconds. Very easy to navigate.

Thanks and we will come back again.

Best wishes

Tony and Marie

Thank you Tony and Marie for trying the slideshow out, it's good to know it works on  the AppleMac as well.

The plants in the slideshow are only showing the pictures of the largest genus's of plants we have in the garden. I think there are 429 plants on that show.

The other 641 ish plants  ;D and the ones in the slideshow, can be seen on Georges IgPro software here http://www.plantguide.lynandmalc.co.uk/ if you have not seen it before.

I am working on other slideshows showing views of the garden, but paid work is getting in the way. >:(

Best wishes for your next six  :o  openings for the National Garden Scheme.

Malcolm, Thanks for your good wishes  and details about the igPro software that you are thoroughly using! We had looked through some of your photos on the link a few days ago without properly taking in that it was using Georges IgPro soft ware. Certainly a very impressive way of cataloguing and keeping details and photos. For a couple of years or so we have been intending to catalogue our plants with photos but know it will probably take us about 3 years! George did suggest who to contact to find out how to get the software to work with applemacs .... so we hope to check out this lead before too long.
It is great that the warmer weather is now here.
May we return our good  wishes to you and to Lyn ....we hope you have or a wonderful year of colour in your garden and loads of good photos .......and loads of ngs visitors!

Tony (and Marie)
