Cauliflowers
« on: September 15, 2010, 07:57:45 PM »
I tried to grow cauliflowers years ago with no joy, this year i planted in my tunnel some brussels, looked on them today and i have a cauliflower a good 6 inches wide, no idea where it came from i thought i only planted brussels, now all i do with the plants in the tunnel is to put down some slug food  ;D and they get watered at night on a timer, have a cursory glance and check things over each day and see how big my brussels and onions and carrots are getting, i have had no trouble with caterpillars or anything like that, so maybe the key to growing cauliflowers is to ignore them  ::)

The Cauliflower seed you provided germinated well Phil, and the plants grew well until the caterpillars arrived, and the slugs devoured what they had left. I hand picked off the caterpillars and kept an eye out for slugs in the evenings.
The harvest? Two cauliflowers. The rest were "unfit".
The slugs this year have been worse than any year I can remember.
