Came across these photos in my album from a walk we did here last year.
It's in the Burley area of the New Forest called
Mouse's Cupboard, which is south of
Soarley Bottom and northeast of
Berry Wood.
From the angle in
Photo 1 and
Photo 2, you can see a very large hole in one side, which extends from the ground to a height of about 5 feet. The tree is not dead, but still growing strongly.
The remaining sides are fully intact. You can actually climb inside the tree and stand fully upright (
Photo 3). You can look up for two to three more feet, and apart from a couple of small holes from detached branches the tree becomes solid again.
