New program - Switch Databases - GA026

This program allows you to switch to another IG Pro database (a SWAP database), and use ALL programs in IG Pro to access the data.

A SWAP database can be one YOU have created on hard disc, flash, or external disc, or one you have received from ideasforgardens.com or one from another IG Pro user.

The Master Database is an example of a READ ONLY SWAP database.

Using the Data Source pop-up to explore a SWAP database
Some IG Pro programs have a Data Source pop-up, some DON?T.
The default setting for Data Source is My MAIN data files, the database files in your IG Pro installation folder.

You CANT explore the SWAP database in programs which don?t have the Data Source pop-up e.g. the programs under the Files tab.
They continue to point to My MAIN data files

When you close one program down and open another program, the Data Source setting you selected is maintained.

Using Switch Databases - GA026 to explore and work with a SWAP database
GA026 is different in that in addition to switching to another data source, you ALSO command IG Pro to accept the new data source as My main data files.

Thus, when you start any program with a Data Source pop-up, the setting will show the default
setting, i.e. My MAIN data files

When you work with programs which don?t have the Data Source pop-up they will now point to the new data source for My MAIN data files.

Things to note:
In BOTH cases, the SWITCH lasts for the current session ONLY. The settings are lost when you close IG Pro.
There is no indication that you are working in another environment! Beware!!
A copy of IG Pro is required on the computer used to access the SWAP database.
A licenced copy of IG Pro is required to make changes to the data on the SWAP database.

Applications:
Make a copy of your database on a FLASH disc.
This  can then be used in any computer.
Plug it into your laptop, for use in the greenhouse.
Make a SWAP CD to share with your friends in the Ideas Genie Community Forum.
 
Keep a historic record of your database for reference.
Use your imagination! The possibilities have blown my head for years!
