Long new thread.

So I have just rewritten an article for a magazine. It has taken me ages because of my lack of ability to use a wordprocessing program. I wondered if people on here would be interested in seeing it? BUT, I am not sure how to go about posting it. The article is quite long and contains a fair number of pictures.
It is about the construction of a new alpine growing area in our garden.

I for one would certainly like to have a look at it, Eric. If it's for a magazine I presume you have it as some sort of file. What sort is it?
I can't se a problem either attaching it to your post or sending it to George via an Email for him to add as he sees best.
I'm sure George will get back to you as soon as he can.

If its a document that you can email, it should not be a problem. Just reply here and let em know.
I can host it on one of my servers, give you the link, and you can introduce it, and copy the link into the forum posting.

I have it saved as a PDF file. Sending it as an Email is a VERY long process since we are in the 2% who will probably never get land line based Broadband. I can save it in almost any format going with a bit of twiddling by the way.

PDF is the best format for documents for publishing on the web. I wouldnt change it.

The alternatives are to mail it (not a hard copy, of course) on:
1. Diskette (if it less than 1.2 mb or so) What is the file size?
2. CD
3. USB Flash (if you post a Flash, I'll return it by mail)

Anyone else have ideas?

The document is 2.3 meg long and I do not have a Flash thingy.
Worst case I can post it bit by bit, Text and one piccy at a time. But in which part of the Forum?

May take a while. I need to reduce some of the pictures file size. Magazines want them bigger than you do for priniting quality.

I did it as a message and as a series of replies. I could not see any other way to get the pictures in the right place in the text. Alter it as you wish!

I'm going to enjoy reading that very soon. I had a quick look, and its really good! I see a list of plants in there, so I'll be studying that.
To the best of my knowledge, You cant put pics beside text, so its absolutely fine.

Thanks for making the effort to split your document up and post it like that Eric. It must have taken ages.

Ive had a good look Eric. Its very well written!
I love rocks! Youve done a lot of work there. I know exactly how difficult it is to move some of those big boys. I used natural rocks in my sons garden when he married and bought his first house. We wrestled for a whole afternoon with one VERY large rock. I wasnt too impressed when he moved about a year later! I was really pleased with my design.

He lives not far from the Dromara  mountains, with lots of granite stones. I actually preferred the slate type rocks (showing my lack of knowledge of geology here- but its a subject I would be very interested in if I had time)

The plant list by Paul Cumbleton does look interesting! I definitely will check that out. Are they to be found in local nurseries?

As for more articles - Id love to see them. It will also be nice to follow up on your project and see how that looks after the plants have established.

I have great plans for that web site. As you may see from that, I love photos of gardens. I think its the best way to be inspired, and get ideas for gardens.
