Back into the forum first time since I signed on in December. With the weather warming rapidly here (in Washington State...it reached a record of 72 yesterday!) I have a question regarding moving mature Camellias. This particular one, not a Sasanqua, spends all year building up a colossal number of buds, then just as they open, right about now, we get heavy rain, the blooms fill with water, turn brown and just hang there. I would like to move it to a part of the garden where there is some shelter and protection from rain and where I don't have to look at it if the blooms do turn mucky. It has to be at least 50 years old, I have lived here for 40 years and it was quite mature when I arrived. It is about 10' high x about 5' round. I don't want to destroy it if I can avoid it, but I do realize that it will probably be a major undertaking...or do they have a small root system like a Rhodo?
