One of Tatton Park's most famous features is its Japanese garden, begun in 1910, around the time of the Anglo-Japanese exhibition in London. Visiting Japanese craftsmen were consulted on the garden's design, making Tatton Park one of the most historically important Japanese gardens in Europe. Effort is made not only to achieve authenticity, but also to preserve the Edwardian era's image of an ideal Japanese garden. Glassplate photographs of Tatton Park survive from the 1910's, which were utilized for a full restoration in 2001, in conjunction with the Osaka University of Art.

Tatton Park
The layout consists of a tea garden and a pond, which bears a shrine from Japan on its central island. In reference to the surrounding countryside, a rustic English bridge eases the transition into the garden. Within, the original gardeners created a representation of Mt. Fuji in greenery, transporting the visitor to the countryside of Japan. The garden design also includes such classic features as carved stone lanterns, a zig zag bridge, bronze cranes, and a thatched-roof teahouse. True to form, the scale of the tea garden does not permit crowds; visitors ordinarily view the garden over a low, open fence.
