Painting of First Dromore Presbyterian Church presented
« on: September 30, 2007, 10:24:21 PM »
You may recognise someone in this article for this weeks "Dromore Leader", a local newspaper

Local artist Jason Kelly presented his painting of First Dromore Presbyterian Church to the Minister, the Rev Keith Duddy and Cecil Gamble - Clerk of Session, following morning worship on Sunday 30th September.  Jason?s painting has been reproduced on multi-purpose gift/greeting cards, which will be on sale locally.  The painting and cards were presented in memory of Jason?s grandfather, the late Andrew Kelly, who was a devoted elder of this church.  Accompanying Jason at the service were Mr Kelly?s family Marjorie Cushnie, Vera Watson, George Kelly, John Kelly and several other family relations.

Using Jason?s painting as the topic for the children?s address, Mr Duddy spoke of God the artist and God the painter who paints our lives, our circumstances, our troubles and our every day.

Hi Jessie
Thanks for your kind comments!
No need for adulation though! We all do what we like best with enthusiasm.

I'm delighted to hear from you again. How are things in Singapore?

I'm almost through this period of unexpected software development due to Windows Vista, and hope to get back to talking about plants and gardens again soon.
Ive a lot of catching up to do  :)

Yes indeed! Such a wonderful painting, and such a wonderful building to show to us. I'd love to see some interior shots of that building. George, how old is it? You are so lucky to have buildings like this in your 'backyards'. And I have a bonus, now I've got a picture of George Kelly and his family.

I'm afraid I'm not as religiously orientated as my family,Toby.

A quick surf brought up this information:

Quote
The Foundation Stone ceremony, performed by the Right Rev. Dr. Bingham, Moderator of the General Assembly, was an interesting occasion. Two leaden boxes, hermetically sealed, were placed under the foundation stones. These contain coins of the realm, a copy of the Dromore Weekly Times with a report of the final services in the old Church, a Newsletter, Northern Whig, and a sketch of the Congregation's history.

The building was completed in 1915, and today stands proudly as the legacy of wise and faithful forefathers. It is an impressive structure, listed now as an historic building, built of dark blue whinstone rock, relieved by white limestone dressings. The pews are of pitch pine, and it is capable of seating 800 worshippers comfortably.

So - its coming up to a centenary soon!

Heres a web site with some shots inside the building:
