Ivy
« on: May 27, 2009, 10:51:53 AM »
Went round Erddig N.T property yesterday, National collection of Hedera species and froms. Took 140 odd pics for the Master Database. Cannot think of anything more uninteresting than dozens and dozens of slightly different types of Ivy. Did not even manage to take them all, some had no labels and there were a lot in the car park which I did not even attempt to look at. My wife was very fed up and went off on her own (very very disconcerting to someone who suffers from agoraphobia like me) and I was getting some very strange looks from other visitors. After all who takes close up pics of Ivy and then the label?

For such dedication and contributions to the Master Database I nominate you for a Gold Star, Eric :)
Many thanks. I'm very grateful for all you have done.

For our visitors, heres a link to the photos youve contributed already:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/palustris/
Theres more of the last batch to be processed, Eric and I'll add them to that in due course.

For the Ivy, I suggest a new web set using the WPG (Web Page Generator) in Ideas Genie Pro.

Hedera (Ivy) is a genus I havent given much research time to, but I will when I get those photos.
Ive had a look and find our Master Database has 62 varieties of Hedera listed.
Only one, Hedera helix 'Little Diamond'  has photos so far (contributed by Lyn and Malcolm)
When I click the RHS button, I find that that particular one has 17 suppliers in the UK, so they must be popular!

Eric, your recent nomination for a Gold Star for your dedication and contributions to the Master Database, has been successful.
Well done!

If anyone had asked you what you were doing around the Ivy, you could have proudly said that you are one of the photographers for Ideas Genie Gardening software, on assignment to collect material to contribute to its further development.

That would raise a few eyebrows.  :D

Well here's a suggestion for a marketing ploy George.

You / someone designs an ID badge (credit card size), with the Ideas Genie logo at the top, stating the wearer is an official photographer, your web site address along the bottom, signed by you and laminated.

Then, as our members visit various gardens they can don the badge and grab people's curiosity, and maybe throw a few orders your way.  ;D

The finer details, such as commission, could be worked out later.  ;)

Applications for official ID Badge by email please  :) No problem with the finer details.

Would need some leaflets to hand out as well.  ;D
Actually someone did ask and I did say what and who it was for.

Thanks for telling the world, Eric. Word of mouth is always best.

Toby and I are working on just that at the moment! Well, a variation of that.

We are designing a 4x6in post card to distribute to interested parties in the US.
Toby has great ideas on the subject.

I can produce a batch of the finished article for distribution by any members who wish to spread the word.
A little card that size is easy to slide into a pocket or a handbag.

It goes without saying George that I'm in on that.  ;D

Incidentally, I would put mine in a pocket.  :D
