So, members, get your thinking caps on. What other things like first and last frost dates would you like to keep records of?
This sounds very much like the 'weather module' George and I discussed last year.
My suggestions for record keeping would be:
(1) Overnight Minimum and Maximum temperatures for (a) outdoors and (b) greenhouse.
(2) Daily rainfall. Units choices for either Imperial or Metric - i.e. inches or millimeters.
(3) Barometer reading - scale choices of: (a) millibars (b) inch of mercury (inHg), with user-input text box for either. For example,
29.2 inches of mercury would be the equivalent of
990 millibars. Also, if pressure was Rising or Falling throughout each day.
(4) Wind speed and direction. Scale choice for (a) Miles per hour and (b) Kilometers per hour, and direction choices of north, south, east, west, northeast, southeast, etc.
(5) Phases of the Moon. (Not used by us, but some people believe it affects the growth of certain vegetables, and when best to plant them.)
I currently record all these settings (apart from item 5) manually in a notebook.
For rainfall we purchased a plastic rain gauge that stands in one of our flower-beds, and I have a small hand-held 'anenometer' to record the wind speed, and a weather vane on top of our bird-feeders pole for wind direction.
The choices for the above items could be separate drop-down menus to make the appropriate selection, or tick boxes.
I suppose drop-down menus would take up the least space, as multiple choice options can be added here more easily.
Laurie.
