I really feel sorry for you all in the UK and Ireland, here in the Pacific NorthWest we're experiencing what could well be the warmest January on record. We had a real cold snap in mid-December, with quite a few days consitently well below freezing, but since then its just been very wet and recently warm.

Since October, we've had about 24" of rain (17-18" is the norm) - so the ground is pretty wet - but at least we can still get quite a lot of work done.

The sarccocca (sweetbox) is blooming and the fragrance is wonderful - also quite a lot of snowdrops and early daffodils in bloom.

John

We have to wait a while yet, just one early snowdrop in bloom, and a daffodil just about to open here.

The Sarcoccoca, well Lyn dug ours out last summer, it was running through the garden bed, she must have missed a bit as it is still there. It did have a nice scent.  :'(

That lollipop tree is spectacular in bloom Malcolm. Its a real beauty and a great photo 8)
I has a look at your plants list:
http://www.plantguide.lynandmalc.co.uk/
and reckon its #795: Malus floribunda
=Malus flora in abundance  ;D

1095 in the list today Malcolm. I guess you'll manage to squeeze another 5 in there this year and turn another century :D

Yes good one George.

I fired up IGpro yesterday and added some more plants into the "holding bed". New plants that will be going in the garden soon.
I print out the list so we know what we have to put in.

I expect the 1095 entries will decrease a few in the next month, sure to be a few casualties.

All Herbaceous now cut down in the beds. We will be splitting some plants in February, and putting in those mentioned above.
The beds will then be top dressed.

Still some more Clematis to be pruned, hope to finish that tomorrow.

Have made two more of our "own design" nine foot obelisks, for Lyns front garden. All fences in front now repainted in "new" colour, and the obelisks.
