Just received software - a few questions and comments
« on: May 10, 2010, 02:08:00 PM »
First of all, I love it.  I spent 4 hours just putting in one plant experimenting with different things and doing the tutorials.

That brings up the first item.  I am running the program on my laptop, which is windows 7 ultimate 64 bit with dual monitors, my laptops monitor and a seperate monitor set at 1900 x 1400 resolution.  The program runs great with only two little issues.  The 'my screen size' in preferences will not stick/work the fields do not resize/snap when I resize the window, so I must run it maximized.  Also for the tutorials, the first thing it states is 'watch the program choose the menu item for you' when a tutorial is primed.  This does not happen for me, but once I figured what part of the menu each program was located, I just did that part myself manually.  Once over that hurdle, the tutorials went smoothly.

Wish list, the ability to link to my Microsoft One note pages in the plant information)

I'll be playing more after work, but all in all a wonderful program well worth the investment.

Hi Julie
I'm very interested to hear how you get on with the resizing and dual monitors.
Lets deal with that first.
In preferences, make sure you also click these two checkboxes:
1) Allow Screen resizing.
and
2) Use MY screen size

Having done that, are you able to a) click the bottom right corner and then b) drag the screen smaller?
If yes, click Save Changes
Let me know how that works for you.

I answered the file link in the other thread.

But the window resizing refuses to work for me.

When I start the program it is always maximized.  I un maximize it.  I then go to preferences  and on the far left I have allow screen resizing and use my screen size checked.  I get the warning that the program will auto re size all programs, I drag the bottom right corner of the screen so that it is half sized and the save changes button is smack dab in the middle.  I click save changes, it drops back to the program selection screen, where nothing has changed size wise, now I only have access to two of the the three columns of menus.  I go to system, exit, thinking that it will have re sized the contents to match my window changes upon restart.  Instead, I am right back to where I started, the application is maximized back to full screen and nothing has changed.

Try it maximised when you start the Preferences program.
Does it span both monitors?
If yes, and you cant manage to get to the bottom right corner of the screen to resize it, is it possible to use the program in single monitor mode, do the resizing to about half screen size, save settings and then go back to dual monitors mode.

When you check Use MY screen sizes you get the message:
The program will automatically resize screens in all programs

When you un-check Use MY screen sizes you get the message:
Drag this screen to make it your preferred height and width.
That your cue, Julie.

Thanks for being patient.

I do not have it spanning both monitors.  My lap top monitor is set as my secondary monitor and contains my browser.

My oversized monitor is set as my primary, and is where the application runs on start up, fully maximized the whole 1900 x 1400.

1. Start application, maximized, un maximize and center on my screen
2. go to preferences
3. un check both boxes to reset
4. save changes
5. system/exit
6. Restart, maximized, unmaximize
7. go to preferences
8.  Check allow screen resize
9. check use my screen
10. read prompt about other programs
11. Click ok
12. Click Use my screen
13. read prompt about resizing
14. click ok
15. resize so that screen is 1/2 size 1400 x 800ish
16. Click save changes
17. Program selection screen
18. System/exit
19. Restart program, which begins auto maximzed, and upon un maximizing I am right back to where I am started, in fact the only way I can read all the fields is fully maximized.  I am sorry Sir, but it refuses to 'stick' or change for me.

Ive done a program update

Please do this download Julie (and other IG Pro users)
http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/GA198-dl.exe
When installed, start the Preferences program GA198.
The initial screen GA198S01 appears.
It should indicate Version 20

The update has changed the screen colour to deep blue, so it stands out clearly from the Program Selection/Menu screen
Ive also changed the way the screen resizes. As you drag the corner, all buttons and text is also resized.

Heres the new important tip.
You must resize the screen GA198S01 - NOT the Program selection screen or menu screen.
The program saves the size of your GA198S01 screen and uses that for resizing in Use MY screen sizes mode.

Check both the check-boxes:
Allow screen resizing
and
Use MY screen size

Resize the screen GA198S01. All the buttons and text will resize as you go.
Click Save Changes

Next tip:
Currently, the Main Menu does NOT resize to the setting in preferences.
However, the Program selection screen does resize.
Thus the Main Menu will run full screen at all times (at present)
You can un-maximise it - as you have been doing and reporting to us.

The tip is to make sure the resize dimensions you pick in Preferences will allow the screens of all programs to display in full (so you can see all buttons) inside your un-maximised Menu.

Does that work?

Thats great news Julie. I'm very pleased it works with dual screen monitors. It was a bit of a challenge!
