I spotted these in 3 gardens on my nomadic photographiic travels last year.
In Ireland, they are treated as annuals. Meant to buy some this year, but didnt get round to finding a supplier.
Did a quick surf today, and found this, the reason for their name:
A sweet-scented plant which is called Heliotrope because it follows the course of the sun. After opening it gradually turns from the east to the west and during the night turns again to the east to meet the rising sun. The Ancients recognized this characteristic of the plant and applied it to mythology
Isnt it cute!
They have the most beautiful scent, according to my US forum friends. I have to agree, following my encounter with them.
Anybody grow them? What varieties?
