I inherited this beauty from my dad.
Please excuse the weeds, but this photo was taken on 18th November, and I just havent had time to get to this part of the garden for a week or three. This plant is right outside my front door. It usually flowers for me all through December - a truly amazing plant.
I have the red varieties (probably 'Major') but they stop shortly after this one starts to flower, so only a short overlap in flowering time.
Variety? I dont know, but its close to the description of Schizostylis coccinea 'Viscountess Byng'
The RHS A-Z says 'Viscountess Byng' flowers late Autumn so that matches. Also says it is particularly vulnerable to frost damage.
OK, mine does take a hit by frost, but they are like Gladioli - they just keep on producing new flowers on the same stem.
I really do recommend this plant.
