Bank Genie demo database on the Cloud (for sharing and testing)
« on: January 30, 2013, 10:04:30 AM »
Edited and split from another topic on 31/1/13
Please see this topic for details of the Bank Genie Demo database on the cloud:
http://www.flowergenie.co.uk/ideas/forum/index.php/topic,1849.0.html
That topic also explains the "live" testing conducted between some of our members.
The results need to be understood before adding using your own LIVE Bank Genie data on the cloud
George

I'm thinking of putting my data file on dropbox. Can anyone let me know where the data file for Bank Genie Pro is stored and what it is called.

Thanks

I'll work with you this evening Anthony.
If you dont have a Dropbox accouunt, dont do anything yet.
Let me invite you. That way we both get extra storage space from Dropbox.

To you (and anyone else who wishes to have a go):
  • Dont do anything until we have exchanged emails
  • Begin by sending me an email to let me know if you have a Dropbox account already.

Ive sent you an invite to share the demo Bank Genie database on the Cloud Anthony.
The folder name is BGDATA.
Once you accept, it should appear in your local Dropbox folder.

Use the File>Open another database program in Bank Genie.
Click the Find a new database button and link to the BGDATA folder in your local Dropbox folder.
Once opened, add transactions and generally explore.
You'll see the transactions Richard and I added to the James  current account account.
Add another transaction there and post a message here when you have finished working with it.
Both Richard and I should then be able to open the database on our respective Dropbox folders, and see your new transaction.

Thanks for the info. Do the core files remain in APPdata or are these also picked up from the cloud?

Hi Anthony
The core data files are quite safe.
They are most certainly not picked up from the cloud.

If you DO want them into your own cloud space, you need to:-
a) make a folder inside the special Dropbox folder on YOUR computer
b) use the Bank Genie backup program to do a backup to that new folder- NOT TO BGDATA

WARNING:
DO NOT DO A BACKUP OF YOUR OWN DATA TO BGDATA - it is shared by any other members on this forum who are invited to join in this test.

Hi George

I've just used the BGDATA file. I've added a new account added a credit to it and transferred money to "James'" account. Seemed to work fine. I avoided overwriting BGDATA with my password protect file this time :D

That's better Anthony  :D

I can see you have transferred £120 from Anthony Savings account to the James current account.
He WILL be pleased ;D

We have lost the transaction added by Richard because I had to replace the BGDATA database with the original Demo database. That works.
It also replaced the password protected one, so all is working perfectly  :)
