Reversing the display order in BS421
« on: February 15, 2013, 08:42:23 AM »
The transactions in hard copy Bank Statements are listed in ascending date order - oldest transactions first, latest transactions at the end leading to a closing balance.
That's how I designed the presentation of transactions in the program Manage Transactions -BS421 in Bank Genie.

Online Banks seem to favour the display of transactions in descending date order. Do you also find that is their default presentation?
You can click the column header to invert the listing of course.
I (and probably you) have to do that every time to compare and reconcile to Bank Genie.
I find it to be a bit slow ::)

Ive now provided a checkbox control in Bank Genie to invert the order of the list to ease the pain when online.
You may actually prefer that order.
I'm pleased to say it works much faster than online!

Go to the Product support Program Updates website:
http://www.bankgenie.net/support/Updates/updates.html
Download the latest version of the program Manage Transactions- BS421
When installed it should indicate Version 42 or higher

Here's the (new) relevant section in the online User Guide:
http://www.bankgenie.net/UserGuide/421/421.html#Ascending

Ive also updated the Cloud based User Guide if you prefer to use that.
Start Bank Genie after doing the above download.
Start BS421.
Click the User Guide link at the bottom of the page.
In the bullet list of links at the top of the page, click the link: The Ascending button
That will take you to the same section in your Cloud based User Guide.

great stuff my bank, bank of ireland dispaly the online statements as you say newest one at the top, this new way makes it much easier to compare, a small idea if i may  :-\ being an ex msmoney user i used to be able to have the online bank page open and half sized msmoney open and have that showing on top of the bank page i was then able to look at both and update msmoney without the online bank page closeing is this possible with bank genie,

roiphil - I think what you ask is possible in Windows 7 as you can have 2 windows open at once. If like me you are XP then I can't help (I have Win7 on my laptop)

I still use the old paper statements so will not need this cool fix for a while.  Just logged in to say it does work and the dropbox help has updated too. Well done George.

contraboe, i think you are correct with windows 7 as i have that on my laptop too, i will double check that later, on the desktop it is xp i can have the online bank page at half size say and still be able to see BG which i only discovered this morning  ::) still finding things out about BG  ;D, but once you click on BG to enter a transaction the bank page minimises, which is ok you just have to open it up again no big problem,

Phil

Yes Colin and Phil. Its easy when you know how!
It can be done in any Operating System.
In the Bank Genie menu screen, hover over the middle of the three controls top right of screen.
Extreme right is the x= Close control.
Clicking the middle one toggles between the Maximise and Restore Down states .
In Restore down mode you can drag the title bar and then reduce the size of the Bank Genie screen, exposing the desktop behind, or in your case of interest, a Browser session, so you can also see your online Bank Statement.
Happy reconciling  :D

In at least one of my online banks the display order is optional (i have not checked them all :- ).
