An Invitation to View June 2014
« on: June 03, 2014, 03:30:00 PM »
Here we go again, another wander round the old homestead. Tried to take different angles this time, but not easy.

Amazing, stunning, beautiful.
Many thanks again for sharing these photos Eric.

I'm put to shame by the high degree of garden management evident in that photos tour.
I battle to keep my plants free of grass, more than anything. In comparison, you have your garden very well maintained.
Slugs are the other big problem here - they favour the same plants as me, unfortunately. I have to apply slug pellets around  my most precious herbaceous perennials. New plants can be munched to a stump in a few days after planting if not protected.

You have built up an an amazing collection of plants there, and you have grown them into very fine and well presented specimens.

Congratulations to you both and keep up the very good work!

This is the worst year we have ever had for mollusc damage. I have lost count of the number of wiped out plants. Even things which normally are fairly resistant have gone.

That is heartbreaking, Eric.  It must be something to do with the mild winter we have had. Ive been surprised by the number of plants which have actually survived! Begonia semperflorens are usually bought (or grown from seed last year) and planted out each summer in the heart garden. Quite a number are emerging again. I dug some up about 8 weeks ago when I spotted them and brought them into the greenhouse and they are ready for going out again. Some more emerged!

What about the moles? I'm very pleased to see your garden looks OK.

Between me and the cats we have caught 5 so far. BUT, looking at the roadside verges, they are on the move, so maybe.................
The Iris garden is awaiting repair, when the Iris have finished and it is time to replant them, a few weeks time.
