Its October, yet this big Lily has just started to flower.
My sister-in-law bought two bulbs at Chelsea Flower Show May 2007, came to visit us in Ireland shortly after, and brought one as a gift.
I thought it was far too late to plant, (June) but I put in in right away. Ive been watching it in amazement this past 2 weeks, waiting for those big flowers to open. Mercifully, weve had lovely weather this week, sunny and warm (even though its been quite cold at night) and the big fella burst into bloom mid week.
It has stood up unstaked and looks impressive!
Heres the pics I took today. You are probably used to seeing my black dog in the frame of most of my pics. My new gardening assistant is the new model!
James was 2 last week. He's a super wee guy.
Here we have just finished cutting the lawn. James likes to help with the heavy wheelbarrow. (er... Lily on right of pic)
