I made an attempt to file my tax return on line yesterday. I found the software easy enough.
The software validates the information you enter and keeps you on the straight and narrow.
All went well except one item. I thought I was doing something wrong, so I spent more than an hour trying various alternatives to get my info entered.
I rang the help line a few times, with a number of questions, each time took a few minutes to listen to those dreaded options before reaching a human, then it took a few more minutes for them to authenticate my details before we got to discuss the problem. Then there was the inevitable transfers to another specialist, being cut off etc!
Finally, I discovered - there was a known glitch in the system!
They suggested I enter the details in the "Other info" section.
I decided to complete my hard copy and took a stroll to the Tax Office and handed it in. Nice walk, no stress.
Glad to get that out of the way.
On the way home later, I arrived at the bus centre and found hundreds of people milling about.
Bomb scare! Absolute mayhem. Belfast city centre came to a standstill.
I thought we'd put all that behind us in this fair isle.
Fortunately, it was a hoax and I arrived home an hour later than normal.
