Another couple of tips:

1)
The templates are designed for standard rectangular aspect ratios 3:4
If photos are not standard e.g. square, then they wont fill the allocated regions allocated for the printed image.
If they are 3:4 then they will be perfect.

2) The program is designed to maintain proportions.
Thus it wont stretch the photo out of its normal aspect ratio

3) Small images will be enlarged to fit
Large images will be squeezed into the region

4) The text always appears in the same location, irrespective of photo size

Thanks George.

I've re-done the test using Landscape mode and the same photos.  The layout works this time.

I don't know how that happened because I ensured the photos were the correct width as the program suggests, and I calculated the combined width of the 2 photos next to each other ensuring they didn't exceed the width of A4 paper.  ???

I assume that the re-sizing of the photos has to be done manually to the 3:4 ratio, but you're ending up with another set of photos for printing purposes.  At this point I'm confused by you saying the program then maintains proportions, but we still have to re-size them first.  ???

I was very careful though in my re-sizing, so I don't know how it went wrong.  On the screen shot I posted the top two photos look like landscape ones, but they are the same dimensions wide as the two below them, that appear more square.

Laurie.

More tips!

1)
Hold the front page!! You dont have to resize the photos.
The program can handle any size of photo.
Its just that visually, the printed output looks best when you use 3:4 aspect ratio photos (which is standard)

Its the same aspect ratio as a computer screen.
e.g. 800 wide x 600 high (4 times 200 and 3 times 200 respectively)
In the case of a photo with those dimensions, that would be a portrait.

2) You dont need to do any calculations!!
Theres no such complexities involved.
Just use whichever template gives the best result for your photos.

3) To reiterate, you dont have to do anything at all with your image originals.
Do a print preview easch time. That will let you see if youve used the correct template for the images youve selected

Does that help?

That helps immensely George.

I'd taken your original instructions for the photo sizes required too literally, and I was doing just that - resizing them. Duh.  :-[

Anyway, I've got over that now.  :D  I've re-done the test using my original larger sized photos and they display perfectly.

Thanks for clarifying that George.

You've achieved yet another masterpiece.  :)

Laurie.

Thanks for the clarifications George, I thought I might have been asking "sensitive" questions about the program,  ;D as I was getting what you said where vague answers.  ;D

I have  had a good rummage with GA049S01 now, and I am quite happy with the text size as it is.

One thing that appears to me not to work properly is in GA049S07
clicking on "Help me with text"
click on "photo title"
click on " insert at start"
then click on "plant data"
then click on "insert at end"

The two lots of inserted text are shown above each other in the "my text" box
click the "use this " box
we are taken to GA049S02 and the text is shown above each other still, in the "compose text for this photo" box

click in the "save" box

Do a print preview and the second line of text is not shown. I expected both lines of text to be on one line under the picture.

Am I doing something wrong?  ::)

If your user profile is HOME, then that is correct, Phil.
But, make sure by starting GA200 and looking at the path in Item 6 for the Core data.

Best to do that download again.
You should, get a message to say, Do you wish to overwrite these files. Answer Yes.

I dont think the text region is big enough to take 2 lines, so when you enter text, do NOT hit Enter at any stage, even at the end of typing text.
The Enter button forces any data which follows onto a second line.

Thus, type everything you wish to appear in line 1 without hitting Enter button.
Let me know how that goes for you.

No you wont. Its not a "physical" folder, more a "notion".
In the Help program GA002, read the Topic No. 73
The notion of the Core Data folder is discussed
Its the location of your core files for IG Pro.

In the good old days, the data was stored in one and the same folder on every users computer.
That was much too easy. The Vista whiz kids decided to make it more difficult.
Thanks to the their creation, it has to go under the User profile, and to make life a little easier for myself, I applied that principle tpo all installations for my software for all operating systems.
Thus, Its different for every user, as each user has a different User name, and the User name is part of the folder path.
Thats why I refer to it as the Core data folder.

I cant understand why its not working for you.
Has anyone else tried this with a Vista computer?

picpages.fpt

Should't they ?

Yes, that is correct.
Thats the data files which hold the templates

The folders JPGTEMP, PICS and BACKUP are not relevant in this discussion.

Ive updated the program to fix that bug I found.
Also changed the functionality of the Next (photo) button in screen GA049S02.
Also added some tool-tip-text. Hover over the buttons and the photo to see the tool-tips.
I did that to let you know that you can click on the image in screen GA049S02 and see the image in a full screen window.

The update:
GA049
http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/GA049-dl-exe
This should indicate Version 6 after installation

That is more scary than uncanny.
I'd dearly like to hear from other Vista users when installing those files.
Its a big relief that its now working on Vista for you Phil!

That template is suitable fpor one line of text only, Malcolm.
Try this in the Landscape template.
Do the steps in the sequence you described so you have 3 or more lines of text.
Continue right through and click Save and then print preview.
The 2nd and 3rd lines of text will be printed below Photo No1, but in the Photo No 3 image.
Does that happen with you?

That was my problem George. Knowing it would only print one line, using the controls "Insert at start" and "insert at end" I assumed wrongly that the text would end up on one line.

Silly me  ;D

Ah, NOW I see Malcolm.
Well, of course, you can edit the text (including the inserted text) and squeeze it up into that one line.
