Ive prepared this document to explain one process for capturing a screenshot.
The file you produce should be in proportion for posting on the forum.

Just to add to this George, I think the option you have chosen will suit almost everyone.

The Paint program is included with Windows for free, at least up to the XP version (I don't know about Vista), so you don't need to have a separate graphics program installed on your computer if you don't normally use one, but if you do and prefer to use that, then that's okay.

Paint is basic and easy to understand so I would be surprised to hear of an easier way to do your screenshot procedure.

I have to say Ive been very impressed by how so many of our members can create Screenshots and post them on the forum.
A picture can say 1000 words, and it certainly does when discussing a user problem. Its save me so much time.

Thank you George, that was quite easy. I didn't know how to resize it in Paint so I resized it in Adobe Elements 3

I can see from the screenshot of GA037S01 that you have 53 plants added, including 26 Roses!
Thats a really good collection of Roses!
I feel myself just wanting to click those lines to see the photos!

I can see you have Rosa 'McGredy's Yellow'
Did you know it was bred by a very famous Rose breeder from Northern Ireland?
His name is Sam McGredy.
He tired of the troubles here and emigrated to New Zealand, and continued to breed roses.

You cant do any resizing in the Paint program. of course, so you can do as you have done, or you can use the Resize Photos - GA051 Program in IG Pro. You'll find it under the Tools tab on the menu.

Since the others are having fun with the Labels program, would you like a challenge with the software and your Roses?

Don't be put off. Its really quite easy.

If you get a few Roses put into classifications, repost your screen shot again
It will show the Classifications like this:
Rosa 'McGredy's Yellow' <HT> (Yellow) [Shrub]
Its a Hybrid Tea (HT) I believe?

As a final challenge (if you get a shower of rain and cant get to the garden, AND you are really lost for something to do) when you post the new screenshot, follow the steps and cut out the Task Bar at the bottom of your screenshot.

There is a Snipping tool provided with Vista which is supposed to save a screenshot like that, but I have never managed to make it work. Used the posted method in XP but never tried it i n Vista............yet.

I have only really just got into it properly, George. Think of Lyn and Malcolm with 600 plus plants in their front garden alone!!!

Sadly, McGredy's Yellow was in our now defunct rosebed. Thirteen of the roses in my Master Database are in a special "Garden Area" called "Plant Graveyard"

We're all dizzy after the "goings on" on that Labels Program.
But, the good news is we have cracked it.

Just take it slowly, and ask questions!
I'd like the others to join in as well, of course (I dont think theyve tried it yet

I decided to use the RHS list because I have a few RHS books that I use and don't want to complicate things more.

Yes, that looks great.

The important thing I'd like to point out to others is to use the abbreviated code shown on the RHS document.
In your example of screen GA019S03 (its just perfect) youve shown us:
Classification= Miniature
In the Classification Group (8 characters max) field youve entered Min the Code specified by the RHS
That is important as it will be shown in your listings in GA037, GA022 etc.

I also note you have clipped the image to eliminate the Task Bar from the screenshot.

Now to add your Roses to those groups using GA004

Alt PrintScreen works in Vista. If one uses Photoshop as I do then to get the screen up in that one has to create a blank ccanvas first, unlike in Paint. Simple, File-New- Select the size of canvas you think is needed-Paste.
Still cannot get the Snipping tool to work though.

By snipping, do you mean cropping off bits from an image?
If yes, the process described in this topic will do that for you.
However, instead of cropping off the bits you DONT want, you select the region you DO want, then Copy, and paste into a new PAINT document (as described in the steps of the document)

No, sorry. The 'Snipping tool' in Vista is a Screen capture utility. You click on it, then draw a box round the part of the screen you wish to 'save' and then supposedly one can look at it in Paint etc. Well I can draw the Box round things but no matter what I do there is nothing to Paste into any program. As I say I have done it once with a part of a Webpage when I was trying to show the owners how it appeared on my screen, but never managed since. The Help screen is typical Microsoft, ie. no help at all.

Actually I feel frustrated because I wanted to go outside but the pollen is blowing off the common and I am coughing, sneezing and dribbling so I have kept indoors. At least it allowed me to complete your course on how to set up a Genus with Divisions. I have now checked in GA037 as instructed. The hardest part was deciding which division some of the roses belonged to. Luckily the Master Database answered a lot of them but sometimes I was on my own

. I found I had omitted three more roses that we have growing at the moment so I added those too.

You can do exactly that by following the steps in the exercise, Eric.
Theres a twist.
Instead of drawing a box around the part of the screen, you capture the entire screen (ANY screen) using the Alt-Print screen keys (described in the article).
Then when you get to paint you make the selection you want.
Have a go at that and let me know if it does what you are expecting.

Never had any trouble doing the Alt Screen print thing, but the Snipping tool is supposed to be useful for copying just part of the screen and in any shape, not just a rectangular box. I think it must be corrupted or something as the things the Help screen say to use do not even appear on my screen at all.
