New Label - A4 sheet size, 4 Labels per page - Landscape
« on: June 11, 2009, 12:49:19 AM »
Following on from the fun we had with the Orion label, heres one for European sized paper stock.

2 Downloads:
a) GA048
http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/GA048-dl.exe

b) Labels:
http://www.ideasgenie.com/updates-igpro/labelcds-dl.exe

Start IG Pro
Under Labels tab start GA048
Should indicate Version 25 when started up

In the Select a Label pop-up, select A4 4 labels-Landscape 2x2
Click on the New Labels button
Proceed as normal to add plants to the four label images in the template.
Click Edit.
This takes you to the screen with the richtext options.
See what you can do with it.

The downloads worked fine George, but haven't had time to see what the text formatting is like.

Have you programmed the space for the pictures to be universal ie vertical or horizontal.

Must fly

I've just done a mock-up of 4 plants just to test the result on A4 paper.

On entering data for each plant, long text wraps to the next line.  But as can be seen in the screenshot below, that long text is cut off on the print preview and it actually prints out the same way.

I know George is working on getting text to wrap, but this is just to show what is possible at the moment.

George, one other thing I noticed is some strange text appeared in all the plant labels after I'd done the print preview - see screenshot below:

Hi Laurie
That was quick! What a fantastic job!
I am so impressed with your selection of Fonts and colours.

Some points for all to note (and please keep this screenshot for all to use as comparison in the discussion below):
Point 1
The photo region is designed for Landscape photos Ratio 3 (Ht) x 4 (Width)
To make full use of the allocated space, choose a photo with that ratio.
In the example shown by Laurie (above)
Cosmos purity and Osteospermum 'African Moon' seem to have those proportions.
(Great photos of beautiful plants Laurie!)

Point 2
Yo are NOT limited to those proportions. The program will accept and print any shape or size of photo.
It is designed to keep the proportion ratio, so you will not get any distortion.
In the example shown by Laurie (above)
Lupin 'Gallery Yellow' is an image wth portrait proportions.
The program fills the height to the maximum, but not the width, due to its ability to retain the proportional ratio.

Point 3
You do NOT need to resize your images.
The program accepts any size and makes them fit.
Larger photos (file sizes of 1Mb or more proportions) will take longer to print - just be patient.

Point 4
Text wrap is a problem at present (still working on this)
Heres a workaround.
In the example shown by Laurie (above)
Californian Poppy
Colour: Creamy Ye (has llow truncated)
Two options:
a) Place cursor just before C (in Creamy), Press Return/Enter key on keyboard
This will force the text Creamy Yellow onto a second line
b) Place cursor just before Y (in Yellow), Press Return/Enter key on keyboard
This will force the text Yellow onto a second line
Font Size
This is important of course. Using a smaller font size will allow more characters per line.
For a blank line
Simply hit the Return/Enter button (twice if necessary). This gives a nice presentation on the right of the image.

Point 5
Strange text appears in all the plant labels in screen GA048S02 after editing text in GA048S08
It is actually the "behind the scenes" formatted text associated with Rich Text.
This is the data which is saved to your hard disc.
The computer, with those complex Controls, knows how to decode that text and reproduce your Rich Text labels.
From a user point of view, if you see the coded text, it means you have edited that label

Please dont update the image in the posting above Laurie. Instead, do some editing as suggested above and post a new message so other members can see the "Before" and "After"
Dont worry about the photos if you dont have exact proportions. Its the text that is the issue at present.

Have you filled all 4 labels in the template in GA048S02?
If not you will get "blanks" in the printout

Here's the 'After' effect to the screenshot above.

I have used exactly the same photos, so all I've edited is the text by using George's suggestions of breaking certain words manually with the Return key at appropriate places.

Point 2 in Georges explanation answers my previous post, as to why the text is pushed over to the right so far when using vertical pictures.

The space for the pictures is 'universal'.

Thanks for that George

To Laurie
A possible bug?
I notice the image in Cosmos purity has been replaced by the image for Osteospermum.
I spotted this bug while working with a plant with multiple photos linked, but thought I'd fixed it in one of the updates.

Formatting looks good Laurie!
Do you have enough space to insert a blank line between each plant Property?

RE (Malcolm)
Quote
The space for the pictures is 'universal'
In that it takes any size or shape of photo, the answer is yes Malcolm.
However, for maximum impact, that particular template is designed for Landscape shaped photos.

I'll do one for Portrait shaped images next.

Here's the screenshot with spaces between plant Properties.

The change of photo in the Print stage gets changed, as you stated George.  Whilst in the editing mode, the images match the correct flower.

A perfect set of steps for illustration and educational purposes, Laurie!
Can you edit Cosomos and re-selct the correct image.

A note to members:
Until I fix that bug, check in Print Preview before printing a hard copy. Make sure images are as you intended!

Can you shed any light on how/where/afterWhat the image was "transformed" Laurie?

Its to do with your printer. It looks like I will have to adjust the label to suit.
Unfortunately it will make the label smaller for everyone, but I guess I have to design the labels so they print on one page for all possibilities in the world of printers.

Go here:
http://www.flowergenie.co.uk/ideas/forum/index.php/topic,1073.0.html
Do the Test described.
Please report Printer Manufacture and model and the values for Top, Left, bottom and right.

Does it accept A4 pages?
If yes, it should work for you without throwing a second sheet.

Borderless sizes supported include A4
On a review of the printer I googled.

Thanks Malcolm.
If it prints borderless, it should print the 4 labels in this design on one page without throwing a second page.

Each label is surrounded by a rectangle.
(If users find its a problem I can remove it.)

However, in this early stage, its good for testing.
Each of you doing this test shouls see the entire rectangle around each of the four labels.
If not, please let me know.

Are you seeing the entire rectangle, Phil?

Can you shed any light on how/where/afterWhat the image was "transformed" Laurie?
When I produced the lables in IG Pro the first time (first screenshot), then up to the point of Print Preview and then actually printing them, all photos matched their descriptions.

However, when I did the second attempt to get the text to appear correctly and then went into Print Preview that is when the Cosmos photo got replaced by the Osteospermum.

My subsequent altered screenshots just showed the wrong photo for Cosmos each time, so I just left it as is.

I have just tried to reselect the correct Cosmos image as you requested but it's not displaying it.

I have right-clicked in the top left label to delete the flower, inserted a completely different one and this new flower displays correctly up to Print Preview stage as normal.

If I then delete the newly added plant and select Cosmos to go here again, all's well until I press the PRINT button and see the Preview.  At this point it's displaying the Osteospermum photo again every time.  This happens repeatedly.

I don't know why the Cosmos photo is not displaying again.

Laurie.

Thanks for that info Laurie
Dont test any more on that problem. I will see if I can find the bug based on your detailed info.

Everybody:

Just what you to know that I'm watching and reading as things develope with the UK Label Team's new A4 label layout.

Thanks so much for the the work and testing that you people are doing, I know it can be frustrating and irritating at times, but that is how wonders are created.

And with George's creativity and know-how, that's what we will have; a Gardening Label Program that is second to none.

(Also, it is interesting to see my name pop up in the discussion every once in a while.)

- Toby

I have found another bug which may be related to Lauries bug.

Do you want the details or are you ok for the time being.
