First the welcome snowdrops, their companions the daffs. arrive.
They are thought as as being common, but when it comes to outstanding flowers, I think they deserve more acclaim.
The first bunch we had this year were bought in the supermarket. A dozen or so stems, in bud.
Next day, I was astounded to see the first buds had opened, and each day the show got better.
They are great cut flowers, and so easy. They dont collapse in the hands of amateurs.
But heres the bit where I take my hat off. We always buy a couple of pots of the dwarf varieties for indoor display. When they finish, they are set in the greenhouse for me to plant out.
Well, last week, doing my weekly chores in the greenhouse, I found this VERY neglected pot, on its side, pushing up a few stems.
Busy guy had missed that one last year!
I put them in a bigger pot, and brought them into the house.
They are in full flower already!
And the number of varieties nowdays are numerous.
I inherited quite a few different varieties from my dad. One has three flower per stem and has great fragrance.
I have added a few of the dwarf varieties, close to the window where I work at my computer.
How many varieties do you have? Ever counted them?
