Me poor foot update!
« on: February 11, 2010, 05:56:00 PM »
Saw the specialist today and the toe is healing nicely as it should. Now allowed to remove, gradually, the special shoe and should be ok to drive next week sometime. Hurrah!

Great news there Eric.  You must be relieved to hear that you will be able to get about more soon.  :)

You'll be able to start planning all your gardening jobs now.  :D

Still somewhat swollen, but have manged to drive without too much trouble. Going for a longer trip tomorrow to see what effect that has. Walking is still not comfortable and the change in gait is playing havoc with my back, so having to wear my back support a lot of the time which is very inconvenient.

Well after 12 weeks of walking carefully and a certain amount of discomfort I can report that a. The bone is not setting as quickly as it ought and b. one of the titanium steel pins has broken.
So, got to go back in 8 weeks and see if it has set properly and the joint is immobile and then the pin does not matter. Or they do it all over again.

That is terribly bad luck, Eric, with spring on it's way and things to be done. I hope they sort it out as quickly as possible. How very frustrating for you  >:(

All the best,

The other Eric

That is really bad news Eric. Lets hope it sets properly without you having to go through all that again.
Very best wishes.

Sorry to hear you have been injured but very sorry to hear that mending is slow.

Our best wishes that things change towards a  speedy recovery

How on earth can a Titanium pin break  ::) must have been undersized  :o

Lets hope that it heals itself so you don't have to endure another op.

The pins are only about as thick as a strand of spaghetti and do bend or break rather often. They are supposed to only be needed until the bone has set. The break is in one of the uprights of a pin, not the cross section (They are shaped like a staple {_} the other way up in my toe). The problem is not the staple as much as my bone not setting. Good job I have only broken fingers in the past (Bows to Hubris)

Not really, it is still painful and still cannot walk on it properly. Drove down to Solihull on Saturday and have suffered for it since. Thanks for asking.

At least it does not hurt, it just swells up if I walk on it more than a little. Driving is possible, but again, the greater the distance the more problems it causes afterwards.
Good job we are not having a visitation in the garden this year, there are a lot of jobs which are not being done, lawn edging for one. The trouble is that the odd walk I have developed is damaging my back beyond belief and that is PAINFUL.

Just thought you might like to know that despite the 8 weeks of Comfrey poultice, the bones have not fused. Got to go back in 3 months, if they have still not fused then, then it is probably more surgery.

Thats bad news Eric. I really do sympathise with you.
Very best wishes for a better report in 3 months time. It really is a slow recovery.

You must be feeling really frustrated not being able to be at full throttle in the garden.
