Acer palmatum 'Trompenburg'

Great photo, and a great plant.
Its probably one of the more distinctive of the Acers. The leaves look like they are "rolled" like a cigar. Is your like that?

The last days the colours of Acers seem to be changing from day to day. There even seem substantial differences in colours between individuals of the same cultivar. Let's compare Whis4ey's A.p. 'Trompenburg' with mine below. Do we write about the same plant?

And for George: no sigars to smoke, guy!

Colours will vary with climate, where the plant is planted, its age. soil etc etc
One of the rather exciting things about these plants I think

The rolled up cigar leaf effect is more pronounced on new growth, so look out for that in Spring, Andre.
As well as being one of the most easily recognisable due to those leaves, its a star!

Do you know of any other Acer varieties which have the rolled leaves Billy?

Hemelrijk looks like it was developed from Trompenburg George, if you have a look at the pics of it on my website
Green Trompenburg would also have the same leaf shape I would think, although I don't have that plant

Well, your photo of Hemelrijk in May 2007 looks exactly the same as my Tompenburg.

Can you see a significant difference between your Trompenburg and Hemelrijk, Billy?

Hemelrijk has much smaller leaves George
However, as you know, it always takes a few years for a new plant to settle in before you can make up your mind as to what it is really like
I await the next few years before coming to a final decision

Now that you say that, the rolled leaves effect on my Trompenburg were very pronounced (perhaps more pronounced) when the plant was quite young.
It was a bit slow to leaf out this year, perhaps due to where I had it sited in a sheltered spot, before moving it out to a more open location. I'll keep an eye on it next year.

It gets pride of place with a location on my beaten track, of course. Great plant all season.
