Enter a few characters of text in the
Collector/Author
field.
Then Enter C, A, B or L into the CABL field. The program will tell you the meaning.
Not used a lot, I'm sure, but its there for the botanists and the purists

Ok - all is clear George. Strangely enough, I'd never entered anything in the collector author box until this morning when I put a couple of breeders' names in the box. Did you intend 'Author' as synonymous with breeder?

No Trevor, but you can if you wish
The Author is usually a botanist who studied that plant.
The Breeder name isnt considered as part of the plant name and should go in the Plant Data field in GA100S36
A plant introduced by a collector is different and is part of the plant name (hence the CABL stuff
)

Glad it makes sense Trevor
I put that field in to allow users to enter botanical plant names into Ideas Genie exactly as found in the RHS-Plant Finder. If anyone has a copy they will see what I mean.
Here's an example:
Erythronium dens-canis JCA 470.001
Now go buying it
Ive spent a while Googling and on the RHS website leading to one supplier and when I got there, I couldn't find it in their list.

Know the problem George. The number of times I've found something advertised on the Google index only to find that the company doesn't have it. I think it's just to get us onto the sites in the hope that we'll buy something else (maybe I'm just a cynic!). Very frustrating though. With the RHS plant finder, I don't know if you keep up with the latest version or not. I know that I don't though they advise not to use out of date ones. My latest is for 2010/11. Excellent tome to have though.
Cheers,
Trevor

Mine is out of date as well, Trevor, but I still refer to it from time to time.
I used it to verify plant names when adding plants to the Master Database in the early days.
Nowadays I use the on-line version - very useful to resolve duplicates found in the Master Database.
Now that Ive mentioned that I'd like to ask our members to report any such anomalies found in the Master Database.
