Pulsatilla grandis ´Budapest´
« on: April 23, 2013, 07:54:33 AM »
I received this email this morning:

Quote
Dear Sir or Madam
Thanks to the internet I came across your site in the almost impossible quest for seeds of the Pulsatilla grandis ´Budapest´. I am desperately looking for seeds to buy of this lovely blue variety. Would you have possibly have any idea where on this planet I could purchase them? I would be very grateful for any idea. Thank you very much in advance for you effort

Incurable plant addict

Any ideas Eric & Co?
I was talking to John Ryden at the weekend (he was the very first person on the planet to buy Ideas Genie - Software for Plant Lovers 8)). He informed me that he grows alpine plants in his garden. Any contacts John?

Has any of our members ever grown it (or seen it at an Alpine Garden Show ;))

Seen it, tried to grow it, but all accounts say that the original plant no longer exists. Keith Lever at Aberconway Nursery sells a plant under that name, but it is not as blue as the original was supposed to be. I have Pulsatilla grandis, which is a lovely pale lilac colour (wild collected in Austria by someone from Kew) but even that is not the true blue.
Sorry.

Many thanks for your reply Eric.
I had a look through your WPG projects here:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/
Couldn't see it in the ones listed.

I see that I need to refresh that list to show the full list of the ones you have published:

I'll do that some time this week :)
I'm sure our new visitor from Germany would be interested to look over your photographic records.
They are a lovely little treasure trove :D
