Upgrading question - IG to IG Pro
« on: September 15, 2006, 10:23:28 AM »
George, if I'm well informed I can bring in the plant data from ifg-ig to ifg-igp, is that right? I've tried a few days the first application, but as the igp is broader in possibilities I'll tackle that last one now.
If possible, can you tell us which is the best/safest way to do the data transfer?
In case of things going wrong I've already made a back-up on a separate back-up folder under c:\ and the same on a DVD+RW, burned by Nero. That second, external one, because I don't want to have only one back-up and than still on the same machine. If it goes in strike it can "seize" my data.

Links to the various upgrades are now shown on the home page of the Ideas Genie on the Web Product Support Page:
http://www.ideasgenie.com/

You are a little out of synch, Andre

I assumed you had done the IG to IG Pro upgrade before I asked you to do the latest File alterations installation (GA906-06-dl).

Something to explain.
The menu option called Special under the System tab runs a program called GA901.exe
The good thing for me is that GA901 can be anything I make it.
e.g. Lets say some problem arose.
I can write a program to test for, and fix the problem.
I would compile the program with the program name GA901.
I can then publish this on the web site for the customer to download.
I can then ask the customer to download the program and do the fix.
Thus, GA901 is a versatile tool.

Initially, GA901 (on your IG Pro CD) was for the upgrade.
It was installed when you installed IG Pro from the CD.

However, You downloaded and installed the special program GA901-06-dl.exe
When this runs it unpacks and instals a new version of GA901.
This overwrites the Upgrade program, also called GA901.

We now need to reverse what you have done.

The following is ONLY for your case, so other members - please ignore!

Put the IG Pro CD in the drive.
Click Cancel when the installer begins.
Lets say your CD drive is d: and your hard disc drive is c:
Look for a file called GA901.exe in the folder d:\program files\ideasforgardens\ifg_igp
Copy that file into the folder c:\program files\ideasforgardens\ifg_igp on your computer.

Now you are ready to do the upgrade (to transfer your IG files into the IG Pro environment).
Follow the instructions on this page:
http://www.ideasgenie.com/IGUpgrade/igupgrade.html

When the upgrade is completed, you will have to download (again!):
1) The Database alteration program GA901-06-dl.exe.
2) The File Set (English- Dutch)

Note that you wont have to re-download the Menu or the IG Pro programs. They are unaffected by the steps above.

Then Start Ideas Genie Pro
Run the program Systems> Special - GA901
It should have the description - Database Alterations.
Read the HELP on that screen
Then click the button.

Start the Preferences program (GA198)
Look for the field which says "Allow auto screen resizing"
Check it.

Now try running the program called Database Explorer - GA037. Its under the
Programs tab on the NEW menu.
It should give you a full screen dispay of the data you had in IG.

Let me know how it goes.
