Bi-annual direct debit
« on: April 01, 2015, 02:45:54 PM »
Hi there.  It has been some time since I was last here, busy, busy.

I just tried to enter a new direct debit which is paid every 2 years but found there was no option for this.  Is there a work-around for it?

Thanks

...and you are very welcome back Richard!

That's a new one on me :o
Matter of interest - question to our members - does anyone else have this sort of Direct Debit?

I read your posting earlier and went off to think about it.
I thought of a number of workarounds for you, and how I should achieve it in Bank Genie.

Here's my preferred workaround suggestion:
1. Set up the DD as an Annual payment.
Set the Start Date to the date of the next payment due.
2. AFTER the payment has been processed for that date, edit the DD record in Bank Genie.
Change the Start Date to the next due date, 2 years later.
3. Repeat step 2 every 2 years.

Would that work for you?
If yes, I'll add the Every 2 Years option and make Bank Genie do that for you automatically.

I have never had a need for a bi-annual direct debit.

An alternate work-around. Set it up for an annual DD and in the alternate years set the amount to zero.

(I use this for a rarely used credit card with a monthly DD; most months the amount is zero)

Yes, that would work as well. Thanks Barry.

Thanks for the ideas.  The problem is remembering what to do and when to do it.  It just goes to show that if someone wants you to pay them at a regular interval except when there is a Friday the 13th in the month/year the human brain wins over technology! (Perhaps.)

In the method I described, do it immediately after the payment occurs Richard.

I also have one payable every two years (web domain) I just amend the date as above. In MS Money however, I select "Every Other Year"

Thanks for that Dave. OK, I'd better add that option to the ToDo list!
Is that the only option not available in Bank Genie?

Hi George,

MS Money also has "Daily" and "Only Once" I cant imagine using daily, and Only Once would be entered as a normal Transaction in my view.

Regards,

Dave.

Thanks Dave.
If anyone wants one or both of those options, please reply in this topic.

I cannot envisage using those two options. Now that the example was given I too have a bi-annual web page bill but I just enter it in the account when I get the email.
