    • The Musings Of A Transplanted Gardener
introduction
« on: October 28, 2006, 02:54:54 AM »
Hi all,

like to introduce myself.
I'm being a German transplant to USA, live now in Oregon in the Willamette Valley area. Great for Gardening, especially Perennials and shrubbery. I have moved in the last 20 years to so many climate zones, that soon I will have tried them all (Aside the really cold US zones, with very short gardening seasons)  ;D that wouldn't be for me.
Makes gardening very much interesting, having to relearn everything, just after you got the hang of it were you lived last.
so since 4 years I'm in Oregon. Like it here, being German I don't think it rains too much here, contrary what many think. Sommers are completly dry here. Days are warm, but not to warm. Nights are more on the cool side. Sometimes this gives trouble with the heat loving veggies. Anyhow, it is a nice change from North Carolina, where it was way to hot and steamy for me.

I do mainly mixed garden beds, I'm working on redoing  my new garden and then I have a large vegetable garden.

I found the IG through searching for Gardening software. So far I like it.

You probably won't find me too often on the forum. I am usually far to busy to chat online. With homeschooling my boys, working the garden, playing with the garden software and the Living cookbook software, plus all the other things I'm doing, I don't think I will find the time very often.

Anyway, I hope to learn some good tricks for using the IG on this forum, and maybe learning more gardening

greetings
Isabell

Hi Isabell
Thank you for joining us here and believe me you ar every welcome.

In an earlier email you informed me that your fiirst language was German, and to excuse your English.
Theres no need for that. Your command of English is excellent!

The copy of the software you received had an English-Dutch language set. I can post an English-German set on the program updates page if you are interested. However, it need to be translated, using the set of 6 language translation programs supplied with the IG Pro software.

I'm very excited to have a forum member from Oregon. I know from my surfing experiences (probably for Japanese maples) that its a great state for gardening.
Ive found lots of fantastic on-line Nurseries, so I can imagine you are not spoilt for plant availability. Do you have a favourite Nursery?
What Zone are you in?

I hope you find time to visit and keep abreast with all thats happening on the forum, and I hope you do find time to ask questions and post replies in threads which you find interesting.

If you do find time, and want to take the initiative, please start a thread on Cooking. It would be nice to share recipes, and revive and encourage members to follow your example and grow more vegetables.
