This facility has been available in IG Pro for some time.
Heres the scenario.
You have Bank Genie installed on your desktop computer.
You'd like your database to be portable between computers.
You have a Laptop in addition to your Desktop computer. (could also be a Desktop computer you use in another location - e.g. the office)
What do you need?
Buy a nice little USB Flash Drive or Memory stick (or whatever you prefer to call it)
I use a 512mb. 128 and 256mb would also do, if you manage it properly.
Now the process.
1) Create a folder on the Flash Drive called
Bank (using Windows Explorer or My Computer).
2) Use System>System Backup Folders - BS197 to configure your
Alternate Backup Folder to point to the
Bank folder on your Flash Drive
3) Use System>Backup Files - BS191, and do a backup to the
Alternate Backup Directory (=folder)
Your database files are now mirrored on the Flash Drive.
4) Lets have a look at them.
Start Tools>Switch Databases - BS026
Click on the
Get a Bank Genie Folder button
Select the
Bank folder on the Flash Drive
Bank Genie does an integrity check to make sure ALL required files are present and intact in the folder you select.
If the check is successful, you will get a message, and the
Switch button is enabled (its grey and cannot be clicked until it is enabled)
Click the
Switch button.
You are now working with the files on the Flash Drive
You can now access the Flash Drive database from any computer which has Bank Genie installed and registered.
2nd licences are reasonably priced
http://www.ideasgenie.co.uk/bankgenie/buyBankGenie/buybankgenie.htmlPlug the Flash Drive into the computer.
Switch following the instructions in step 4) above.
How to get this program running:
From the Bank Genie on the Web product support web page, download:
a) The latest Menu (2.05.20061130 or later) Note that 20061130= 30th Nov 2006
b) BS026 (Any version)
Start Bank Genie
You'll find BS026 under the Tools menu
Restoring files:
If youve made changes on another computer and you want to get those changes into your "Home" computer
Use System>Restore Files>Restore Files - BS193
Make sure that its pointing to the
Bank folder on the Flash Drive!!
Do a restore from the
Alternate Backup Directory (=folder).
Have fun!
