Tina has sent me an email asking how to change the URL of her first web project.
Currently it is:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/tina-wilson/Tinasgarden/She would like to change this to:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/Tinas-Garden/Circle-gardenSimple (Ive called them tasks, so as not to confuse with the Steps in WPG:
Task 1
In the Web Page Generator, in Step 2, change the Web Page Prefix from
Tinasgarden to
Circle-gardenThis will create a new folder:
c:\igdata_sets\web\
Circle-gardenTask 2
The original folder created in Tinas first attempt is called:
c:\igdata_sets\web\
Tinasgarden Thats because the Web Page Prefix was called
TinasgardenGet it?
Thus the original folder is now redundant. However, it contains the photos, so they need to be moved to the new folder
Task 3
Copy the images from
c:\igdata_sets\web\Tinasgarden
to
c:\igdata_sets\web\Circle-garden
Task 4
Click the Generate button (Step ?)
Task 5
Click View button (Step ?)
Make sure the pages are correct, and have photos
Now FTP the new folder, Circle-garden into the
(
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/)
tina-wilson folder on the server
The URL to this project is now:
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/tina-wilson/Circle-gardenTask 6
Change the name of the folder (on the server) from
tina-wilson to
Tinas-GardenThe URL will now be
http://www.ideasforgardens.net/Tinas-Garden/Circle-gardenJob done
Its just like working with files and folders on your local computer.
Ive gone about it all as described to let you see how URL's work.
As you see, they are actually PATH names.
Instead of c:\ the folders and file names are simply prefixed with the name of the server, in this case,
http://www.ideasforgardens.netEasy?
