Getting Started: Palustris Questions and Answers
« on: January 11, 2009, 03:35:06 PM »
Well lets get to it.
Started GA32 and it is definitely Version 39
Clicked on Reviews long button
Clicked  Gardener's Check box.
Review Name Box goes blue, but nowhere can I see the Screen number GA100S37. The one at the top says GA32S01. Nor can I find any Gardener's Pop up.

Humble Apologies Eric  :-[
I left out a step in the instructions

In the email I sent, change it to:
Quote
Click the Reviews tab
There are 3 check boxes (upper right)
a) Gardeners
b) Suppliers
c) Others

Click the Gardeners check box
Click the WW button
Screen GA100S37 appears

Missing step in Blue
I' really sorry for wasting your time trying to figure that out.

Right, helps no end.
Will get back to you as I go on from there.

Yes, well, just had an error message when I tried to add a photo of a plant from my Database and lost the lot!

When you get an error message, you get a blank screen. I hope thats what you mean when you say youve lost the lot!
When you get that blank screen, the Menu Options (alongh top of the blank screen) are still active.
You can start and run any program from the menu.
However, its better to exit the system and restart.

Thus, Exit, then Restart Ideas Genie Pro, Eric.

When you Restart the program go to System Tab> Error Messages and that program will give you details of the error.
Let me know what it says.
Which program were you using?

That is what I did and the stuff I had enetered was still there. Error says 'LOBMP is not an object'. I probably pressed the wrong button or something. My brain is suffering from the cold weather I reckon!

Relieved to hear that!
I dont like to see System Errors like that. Its a bug. If you can repeat that event and can tell me what screen you were in and which  button you hit, I can have a look and see what caused it, and hopefully fis it so it doesnt happen to others.
Any other information shown by the Errors program? (screen name would be useful - I can then do a search for LOBMP)

Send me an email if you need help on anything else.

Found the reason. It is because my folder with pictures is on my D drive, but GA100S49 expects it to be on the C Drive. Told you it was my fault. Now can I change this expectation or do I have to transfer the folder to the C Drive?

It is because my folder with pictures is on my D drive, but GA100S49 expects it to be on the C Drive.
Ive checked the program Eric, and the program will pick up the photo no matter which driive its on.

Ive done a test, by linking a plant to a photo on my D drive (a CD), then adding that plant to a review, then clicking the Web Pages button (Stage 5), clicking thumbnails and selecting the photo in the screen you mentioned GA100S49.
It worked for me, and I was able to generate a web page showing the image.

Try this as a test.
Copy a photo to hard disc
Link a plant to a that photo
Add the plant to the review
Try the Step 5 for that plant and photo
Does it work?

Important Question
On your computer, is D: a CD drive, or your hard disc?

Ive now documented the procedure I sent you by email yesterday.
Its now part of the Bonsai Genie User Guide, but it is exactly the same for IG Pro
Heres the link:
http://www.garden-software.co.uk/Bonsai/advanced1/advanced1.html
Look at both Advanced Lesson 1 and Lesson 2

Members:
Id appreciate a proof read over the Chapters and the Lessons  in the Bonsai Genie User Guide
Some of Chapter 3 is Bonsai only, but the rest is OK for IG Pro

Thats OK (Good) then Eric.

I received your email and have replied so I hope that helps you along a bit.
Incidentally, I'm off line between 5 and 7:15 pm each work day (travelling home, then evening meal)

Error says 'LOBMP is not an object'
We took this problem off line until today while I tried to get Eric up and running.

After MUCH trial and error by Eric, the report from Eric today is):
Quote
As far as I can see the System error occurs when one attempts to create a New thumbnail when there is already an existing thumbnail for that plant.
Have now done a Web site and it works. Only got as far as Alliums with plants in it mind, but hey you cannot have everything at once!
Ta muchly!

 8)

I will investigate based on Erics findings and update this thread later.
That was one of the most difficult ones Ive had to support  :'(
Not solved, but at least Eric is able to work around it.

Meawhile, congratulations Eric. Many would have given up in despair!
Shows gardeners are made of the right stuff  ;)

It was more well done Eric in this case. It took a bit of trial and error on his part to make some sense of why it was giving that error on his computer, when no one else was getting it (that I know of!).

Don't jump for joy too soon I managed to get the same Systen Error last night and the picture was definitely not in the Thumbnails.

Still, to bypass this Error (probably caused by my machines set up as much as anything) I did the following.
1. Using which ever program you like change the size of the pictures you want to include in the IGWeb page to 640 by 480 pixels (I use FinepixViewer which came with the Fuji camera).
2. From GA32504 do Steps 1, 2 and 3. That creates a Folder in IGdata_sets/Web
3. Leave the IG program and navigate to the folder which you have just created.
4 Open the Folder containing the resized pictures and copy them to the Folder in Web.
5. When you are then in GA32504 and go to Step 5 Web pages, clicking on the Use an Existing thumbnail  button brings up all the ones you have copied.

Hope this is correct G and does not compromise your program!

That is perfectly acceptable, Eric. Thats why that option Use an Existing thumbnail is there in the program.

The resizer standardises the size of the photos so that they are uniform for all WPG projects, and look presentable in the web page.
Also makes them so no horizontal scrolling is required.

So, now I have created a set of Web pages called August Garden Tour, I have a couple of questions. (or a dozen!)
They look ok to me, but how do I show them to you without publishing them? Do I need to?
How many pictures can I include. At the moment there are 48 pictures of the Garden, but I could add dozens more of plants one might see in the area of the garden being viewed.
Not sure either about Step 10, pointers silverplate?  ;D

You need to publish them Eric

Now you are ready to publish, I'll send you an email with Login details for the server, and instructions.
Once published, the whole world can see your WPG project.

To publish you need what is known as an FTP program.
Heres a very good one which is free:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/
Choose the option to download the Filezilla client
Today its at 3.2.0

Instructions to follow

So here it is thanks to George. I can see some mistakes but not bad for a beginner. No doubt I can learn next how to edit them out.

I'm proud of you Eric.

It was a very frustrating week with that LoBmp problem, but you soldiered on and got there.

I was pleasantly surprised to see that you have published both Garden Photos and Plant Photos  8)

A little problem with the images at present (not showing fully).
Thats due to the errors you told me about when you were uploading. I had that in the early days with my web sites, before I got broadband.
They will be fine when you upload one at a time.

The important thing is that your WPG is absolutley fine.
I really like the presentation, and that tour of your garden. Now you will be able to talk us through it, with a little biit of text with each photo.
Its clear to see you are a very accomplished plantsman, and very experienced gardener.

Now youve reached the summit of that learning curve, it will be Downhill for Berghill from now on, eh   :)

Great effort Eric.  8)

It just goes to show what you can accomplish when you set your mind to it, and have the will to succeed.

Now you've joined the prestigious band of Genie WPG'ers.  :D

Welcome aboard.

Laurie.
