RHS AGM PLANTS 2008

If any ones interested http://aaaawww.rhs.org.uk/Plants/documents/AGM2008.pdf only 256 pages, i have found a couple of plants which are in my ig database which were awarded the AGM in 2008

Excellent. A great resource there Phil. Many of those plants are already be in the Master Database.

Heres what to do with that info:

AGM
If you edit a plant in that list, (getting into GA100S36) click on the AGM check box and save changes.

Plant info
Get into GA100S36. Copy and paste any info about the plant, save changes

PBR
Some plants are shown to be PBR
Again in GA100S36, click the PBR button and save changes

Hardiness
To record the H3, H4 etc info, you need to get into Global editing, like this:
Get into GA100S36 for an AGM plant
Click Cult/Properties button (top right hand region of screen)
Click Define Cult/Props button
Takes you to screen GA100S30GC
In Culture Grades list
In the list, locate and click on Hardiness (for AGM plants)
(if you don't have this culture grade, use program Files (tab)>GA003 to set it up)

List box on its right (top) should show Categorise as
The grades should show as H1, H2 H3 etc
The plant should already be selected (if not select and click on it)
Using an (imaginary) cross-hair process, click on a Grade H1, H2 H3-H4 etc
Now click on the Plant button
At the intersection of the (imaginary) cross-hairs, Yes will appear
Click done
The Cult/Property setting appears in the list

I've been working through the steps you suggested above.

Whilst creating new Cultural Requirements/Properties in GA003S01 and adding Grades by going to screen GA003S03, I find that the GRADE box only allows for a certain anount of characters to be entered (30 including spaces).

Referring to the PDF that Phil gave a link to for AGM Plants 2008, the Hardiness Ratings are defined here.  The ratings from H1 to H4 have a short definition after each of them which I think is useful, but can't be added due to this restriction.

Is this a restriction of the program that only allows 30 characters to be input, or could you allow for more?

If the Grade (H1, H2  etc in this case) was too long, it would cause problems in other parts of the program where they have to be printed, or displayed.
30 is reasonable, I believe. I havent felt restricted so far.

Bear in mind that for each Grade, you can enter more details in an unlimited text region, supporting the 30 character data you enter.

Have a look at what Ive set up in the Master Database. I think you downloaded a copy at one stage?
Explore the data fields provided in GA003 and all should be revealed

I'm obviously not with it today, or something, because I can't find this unlimited text region you mentioned anywhere in GA003 screens.  They all seem to be the short length boxes for text.

I'm sure you will easily enlighten me, so bear with me a moment.

Screen GA003S02 appears.
You can enter text about that item in the field provided.

The text you enter doesnt appear anyhere else in the ptogram (as far as I can remember)
Its for your own information, to back up some of the grades and qualifiers you create.
The info on AGM hardiness on the RHS is a perfect example

I'm rather glad you brought this up.
I'd like to make people more aware about the Global editing feature, and this is a good example.

Next version of the WPG will be developed to display the Global Editing information.
This would provide very good information to the visitor.
However,as you have now discovered, it places more work (and responsibility) on the person doing the web pages.
People out there just take it for granted, but behind the (WPG) scenes, the best web pages have a LOT of work in them.

In that case, it was a very good and worthwhile exercise 
I'd like to hear from other members on this one.  Global editing, and what you do in there is one of the very significant features which makes IG different from FG.
