Configuring your database In this session you will learn how to:
|
|
|
- Personalise the Plant Types listing
- Configure Check Boxes - Organise and Extend the amount of information you can store
|
|
|
|
|
|
Personalise the list of Plant Types When you add a plant (using Program FG037), you use a pop-up in
the edit screen to define the type of plant you are adding. Plant types are like common names - they differ from country to country. Heres how to personalise the list of Plant types to suit
your country (or language)

- On the Files tab of the menu, locate and start the program Plant types - FG018
- Screen FG018S01 appears and displays the list of Plant types in the database
To Add a new Plant type
- Click the Add a new plant type button
- Screen FG018S02 appears
- Type your new Plant type in the Full Description field
- Type an abbreviation for the new Plant type in the second field
- Click the Add button
- Screen FG018S02 (the initial screen) re-appears
To EDIT a new Plant type
- Double click on the Plant type to be edited
- Screen FG018S02 appears
- Type the new name for the Plant type in the Full Description field
- Type an abbreviation for the new Plant type in the second field
- Click the Change button
- Screen FG018S02 (the initial screen) re-appears
To DELETE a Plant type
- Double click on the Plant type to be deleted
- Screen FG018S02 appears
- Click the Delete button
- Screen FG018S02 (the initial screen) re-appears

Configuring Check Boxes
|
|

In Flower Genie - Version 1, the Plant Profile screen FG100S40 was limited to 3 groups of fixed check-boxes Group 1 Good Things AGM AAS Fragrant Cut
Flower Drought Tolerant
Group 2 Beware things Needs Staking Invasive Self seeds excessively Poisonous
Group 3 Properties Dwarf Variegated Double
Flower Fruit Female Male

Our US users asked Where do I record that a Plant attracts humming birds, butterflies, is deer resistant etc.
We
provided the solution In Flower Genie - Version 2 We made check boxes completely configurable. You can now add, change and delete check boxes, to make the system match your requirements
exactly. We also extended the functionality of the traditional check-box. We provided a data field for every check box, and that includes the ones you add. Thus, check boxes are not
restricted to a simple Yes/No type function. . Heres how to configure your check boxes, and check box groups

- Start the program Plants and Gardens - FG037
- Select a plant
- Click the Edit button
- Screen FG100S40 appears
- Read the Help button on that screen and read the information provided
- Click on the ww button (read ww as = work with) below the bank of check boxes.
- Screen FG100S44 will appear
Adding a Check Box Group
- Note that there are two banks of Add, Edit and Delete buttons
- Click the Add button beside the Check-box groups caption
- Screen FG100S45 appears
- Type in a description for your Check-box group in the Group name field
- Click the Add button
- Screen FG100S44 re-appears
- Your new Group appears at the bottom of the list
Adding a Check Box to your new Check-box Group
- Click once (to select) the new Check Box Group
- Click the Add button beside the Check-boxes caption
- Screen FG100S46 appears
- If the setting is incorrect, you can use the pop-up to select a Check-Box group
- Type in a description of your check box in the Check Box Name field
- Click the Add button
- Screen FG100S44 re-appears
- Your new Check Box appears under the Check Box group selected in screen FG100S46
Add more Check boxes to the Check Box Group as required Try to
keep this to 6 maximum Create a new Group if you exceed 6 check boxes
Organising your Check-box Groups
- Continuing in screen FG100S44
- Note that there are two sets of up and down arrows
- Click once on the line showing the new Group you added above
- Use the up/down arrows beside the Check-box Groups controls to shuffle the entire group of check boxes up or down in the list.
- The order displayed in the list is the same order as the Check Box Groups will be displayed in the Plant Profile edit screen (FG100S40)
Organising your Check-boxes within a Group
- Continuing in screen FG100S44
- Click once on the line showing the Check Box to be moved
- Use the up/down arrows beside the Check-boxes controls to shuffle the check boxes up or down in the list.
- You can shuffle a Check Box from one group into another group
- The order displayed in the list is the same order as the Check Box Groups will be displayed in the Plant Profile edit screen (FG100S40)

About Check Box Groups The following applies when you Edit a Plant profile in the
program FG037, and reach the screen FG100S40
|
|
|
- You can add, edit and delete Groups
This allows you to rename the Groups (e.g. into another language)
- You can have an unlimited number of Groups, each with 6 check-boxes
- A Group should contain a maximum of 6 Check boxes
- If you add more than 6 check boxes to a check box group, Flower Genie will appear to create an additional group of the same Group name when you look at plant profiles in the screen

Best to play with it and see
- Click on the Up and Down arrows below the check-boxes to scroll through the Check-box groups.
- Up and down arrows are only visible when you have MORE that 3 Groups of check boxes
- Restriction:- At any one time, only 3 groups are displayed, due to screen restrictions.
However, you can rearrange the groups in your favourite display order, so the most popular 18 check
boxes are displayed without scrolling.
- When you print a plant profile, this information is printed in the same Group and Check box order as displayed in this screen
- You can arrange (shuffle) the order of display of the Check Box Groups

About Check Boxes The following applies when you Edit a Plant profile in the program
FG037, and reach the screen FG100S40
|

- You can add, edit and delete Check-boxes
- Every check box you add has a Memo field
- Data in a check-box memo field is displayed when you mouse-over the check-box.
- Data disappears as soon as you move the mouse away from the check-box.
- Right click the check-box to edit and/or use hyperlinks
(The check box must be checked before you can access the Memo field)
- Hyperlinks (links to Web-sites) are permitted in the memo fields.
You can save web-addresses, then click and re-visit the web-site(s)
- You can arrange (shuffle) the order of display of the Check Boxes within Groups
