SENDing plants by email (to friends with Flower Genie)

You’ve found or grown a gorgeous plant, and you are so excited you just HAVE to share your photos and information about the plant with your gardening friends.
If they have email, you can do that with a few mouse clicks. Heres how.

  1. Start program: My Plants and Gardens - FG037
  2. Click once in the list to select a plant
  3. Click the SEND by E-mail button
    Screen FG100S43 appears Screenshot
  4. Play with the three check boxes to explore the options in this screen.
  5. Leave the Send Photos check-box checked to send Photos as attachments
  6. If checked, use the Select All, Select Another and Attach buttons to add more photos to the send list
  7. Use the Detach and Detach All buttons to remove Photos from the SEND list
  8. Leave the SEND Photo Details button checked if you wish to include your notes about each photo
  9. Leave the SEND Plant Data button checked if you wish to include your Plant Notes
  10. About the Send To (email address) field
You can type (or copy and paste) an email address into this field.
    Theres an easier way.
The Genie looks up all the Gardener profiles in your database.
Every Gardener profile with an email is added to a list, and is displayed in the Gardeners with e-mail addresses pop-up.
Note: If no email address, the gardener does not appear in the list .
Click the pop-up, and select from the list. The Send To (email address) field is automatically filled with the respective email address.
If you are communicating with a friend on a regular basis, its a good idea to add them to your database.
Use program FG042. Be sure to fill in the email address field.
If you’d like to test this process, use FG042,  enter my name (George Kelly) as a Gardener and use the email address  in the About us link.
  11. The E-mail subject field defaults to the name of the plant. Personalise it if you wish.
  12. Click the SEND button
  13. Flower Genie attempts to open your email client (if its not already open), and fills all the appropriate details into a New email, ready for you to review before sending. Flower Genie also attachs the selected photos to the email.
  14. You can personalise the email by adding additional text.
However, dont change anything that Flower Genie has generated
Insert your message at the beginning of the body text in the email.
  15. Click the Send button to despatch your email

GETTING plants by email (sent by friends with Flower Genie)

The email may look like gobbly-gook, but its in a very special format to suit Flower Genie.
All you have to do is save the attachments, copy and paste from the email body, and follow a few simple steps.
Flower Genie will add the new plant to your database, and link all the photos (attachments) to the plant.
Heres how.

  1. Open the email
  2. Save the attachments
Save the attachments to a folder, NOT the desktop.
Make a new folder if necessary, but be sure you know its location, as you will have to find the photos again later in the process.
  3. Ignore the email subject. Its not required in this process.
  4. Copy ALL of the text (Use Ctrl-A then Ctrl-C)  in the body of the email
You dont need to worry if your friend has added a message at the top of the email.
Flower Genie will ignore that, and look for the information it needs from the entire block of text.
  5. Now Start Flower Genie
  6. Click on the Get Plants menu tab (on the very top of the screen)
and start the program: Get Plants from E-mail - FG041 Screenshot
  7. Paste into the Edit Box
You can use Edit, Paste from the menu, or do a Ctrl-V to paste the data on the clipboard into the field.
  8. The data copied from the Email should appear in the text region
  9. Click the Help button
You will read how to finish the import procedure.
  10. When completed, the new plant will be added to your database, and the plant will be linked automatically to the new plant.

Viewing the new plant and Photos
  11. Start the program My Plants and Gardens - FG037 and locate the plant. The photo(s) will appear
